COVID-19 Care for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding

Gynaecologists,

Due to the reduced office work that many of us are doing as private practitioners, I felt obliged to post this newsletter a lot sooner than intended. This should help guide us in taking appropriate care of our patients who present with ABNORMAL UTERINE BLEEDING in the current Coronacrisis.

Rather than rewriting this info here, I will refer you to the original document itself:

This pdf document can also be found via the guidelines page of the BSGE (https://www.bsge.org.uk/guidelines/).

Meanwhile, a lot more information is being circulated about masks – N-95, surgical masks, surgical masks that are not up to standard (China manufacturing them full throttle, and the standards organizations not managing to keep up to ensure that the standards are as expected) (https://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1184131.shtml), and home-made masks due to the worldwide scarcity.

Simple 100% cotton fabric doubled up seems to prevent up to 50% of the virus at least (https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/best-materials-make-diy-face-mask-virus/) when making face masks at home, which is what the population seems to be doing in places where the pandemic is being taken seriously. Have you ever wondered that with Japan being the second country to have been exposed to the SARS-Cov-2, how come their infection/death rates are not making the (hopefully true) headlines? Could it be due to the widespread use of masks in their population, along with cultural social distancing (bow to greet, instead of a handshake), not to mention their impeccable cleanliness and liberal use of handwashing and sanitizers prior to the Coronacrisis?

Happy social distancing!

Raj
